Joyful Anticipation

You know that feeling of having butterflies in your stomach when you are really looking forward to something?  Lately I have experienced that feeling quite often.  That feeling of joyful anticipation…of not knowing exactly what the future holds but knowing that it will be a thrilling ride.  The feeling of being on the brink of something wonderful and exciting.  It’s a good feeling.

The lyrics of the Jesus Culture worship song called Come Away echo what I’m feeling right now.  Here are the words to the chorus of this song:

I have a plan for you
It’s gonna be wild
It’s gonna be great
It’s gonna be full of Me

I love this song because reminds me of the words of Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.  God does have good plans for us.  He is a good Daddy who loves to give good gifts to His children.  He is a Daddy who loves his children outrageously and unconditionally.  As humans we can’t even quite get our heads around this kind of outrageous and unconditional love, but when we come to trust that He loves us this way, we can also trust that he does indeed have great plans for us.  He is a lavish God who wants to lavish His children with good gifts.  Sometimes we fail to think of God in this way.  We can tend to think of him as a hard and stern Father – one who is quick to condemn and punish.  I believe that way of thinking is a lie straight from the pit of hell.  It is a lie that the Enemy of our souls has perpetuated among us.

Luke 11:11-13 says, Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!  I chose to believe that my Father in heaven just can’t wait to bless me – that He desires to pour out His best gifts and blessings on me when I seek after Him, and that is why I live in joyful anticipation.  I can’t wait to find out what my Daddy has waiting for me because I believe He has great plans for me.
